The central Executive responds to the PP that the actions on the Huelva railway network aim to improve reliability. San Juan del Puerto concentrates one of the main interventions, with 2.3 million to reinforce the platform.
The central Government has addressed the criticisms from the PP regarding the railway isolation of Huelva and defended the actions that Adif is carrying out on the network in the province. In a parliamentary response in Congress, the Executive maintains that the works aim to "improve the reliability" of the infrastructure, as reported by Huelva Información.
The response outlines the map of ongoing works. One of the most specific is taking place at the old station of San Juan del Puerto, where works were awarded for 2.3 million euros to reinforce the railway platform over a stretch of approximately 400 meters. The works involve increasing the consistency of the ground using gravel piles and then placing a reinforcement geomat. In the same area, a cross drainage system under the track will be renewed to improve water evacuation and increase resistance to adverse weather phenomena.
In February 2026, the contract was awarded to draft the project for stabilising earthworks and correcting flood-prone areas between the kilometre points 6+038 and 15+134 of line 440, between the bifurcation of Los Naranjos and Huelva. Also included are the interventions announced in 2025 to repair damage and improve hydraulic capacity between La Palma del Condado and Niebla, with a budget exceeding three million euros.
These works affect, among other points, the Bujona stream in Niebla and the Canillas stream in San Juan del Puerto. They include the repair of cross drainage works, replacement of riprap, protection of embankments, and cleaning of ditches. The aim is to repair the damage caused by the DANA of October 2024 and the Garoé storm. Among the most affected sections is the stretch between kilometres 76+220 and 76+900, where work is being done on the track, a level crossing, ditches, drainage, and signalling and communication channels. Additionally, a level crossing will be renewed in La Palma del Condado, at kilometre point 68+346.
Outside the province, but on the same connection, the useful length of track at the Salteras station will be extended to 750 meters to facilitate the crossing of freight trains. The total investment for all these actions exceeds eight million euros.
The works have temporarily suspended circulation between Huelva and Sevilla during certain periods, one of the issues for which the PP had requested explanations. The Government assures that during these interruptions, alternative transport plans were established to ensure mobility.
