Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned about the risks of uncontrolled artificial intelligence, stating that it could lead to as many as 1 billion deaths. This statement comes amid a growing debate about AI regulation.

The magnate and philanthropist Bill Gates recently cautioned that uncontrolled artificial intelligence (AI) could result in up to 1 billion deaths. The information, reported by expansion.com, includes his remarks during an interview with NBC.

Gates emphasized that it is essential for law enforcement and politicians to engage in discussions about the safety and oversight measures necessary to manage this technology. He also indicated that self-regulation by the industry would not be sufficient.

The Microsoft co-founder mentioned that regulating AI would involve a small additional cost for the sector, but it would not drastically affect the development of new technologies.

In light of this warning, other industry leaders, such as Dario Amodei from Anthropic and Sam Altman from OpenAI, have called for a slowdown in AI development to ensure its safety, although this stance faces opposition from the White House.

Concerns about AI development have increased following the resignation of Jacob Coxon, who accused companies like Anthropic and OpenAI of pursuing goals that could threaten humanity in this decade.
