Estepona's council has initially approved a budget of 137 million for 2027, with over 24 million for investments and a provision of 7 million for the largest reduction in IBI.
The budget for Estepona's council for 2027 will reach 137 million euros, maintaining investment momentum and consolidating zero debt, as presented by the mayor, José María García Urbano. The accounts will be submitted for consideration by the plenary on 28 January for initial approval, as reported by Diario Sur.
The mayor emphasized that this is a budget of continuity and consolidation, allowing for continued improvement of services, maintaining the city, equipping it, and continuing to apply the largest tax reduction for families. The accounts for 2025 closed with a treasury surplus of over 65 million euros, a budgetary stability exceeding 8 million, and a bank account balance above 90 million.
“All objective parameters continue to demonstrate the economic strength of this council and that the city model, resulting from our initiatives, has been a success in all areas,” the mayor stressed.
In terms of investments, the budget will exceed 24 million euros. These funds will be allocated to continue the work that will expand the large pedestrian boulevard along the Mediterranean to merge it with the revamped urban centre; expand the municipal parking network to one euro daily with a new facility in the La Lobilla area; complete the connection of the entire coastal corridor; finish the velodrome; and remodel the San Fernando football field, which will be complemented by a covered pavilion that will also house a municipal swimming pool.
The budget includes strengthening maintenance and care services for the entire city, with special attention to the outskirts. Plans for public lighting, road resurfacing equipped with 7 million euros, and improvements in playgrounds and green areas are included. In the neighbourhoods, the comprehensive remodeling of Fuerzas Armadas and the climate control of school centres stand out. Maintenance and conservation contracts for public spaces and public transport services will also be improved.
On the fiscal side, the council reiterates support for families with a provision of 7 million euros to again apply the largest reduction of the Property Tax (IBI) made in the city. The accounts maintain support for culture and the social aspect, with an increase of one million euros in the allocation for home help services.
The initial approval of the budget is scheduled for the plenary on 28 January. Once this procedure is completed, the accounts will be exposed to a period for objections before coming into effect.
