The Provincial Council of Huelva has awarded local company Dos Fuentes, S.L. the works to halt the deterioration of the historic building of the old 'Huelva Término' train station, located on Avenida de Italia. The project, amounting to €112,668.22 (including VAT), will focus on conservation and targeted protection tasks.
The Provincial Council of Huelva has awarded the works to halt the deterioration of the historic building of the old train station 'Huelva Término', situated on Avenida de Italia in the capital. The project has been awarded to local company Dos Fuentes, S.L. for an amount of €112,668.22 (including VAT), as reported by Andalucía Información.
The contract, signed by resolution by the first vice president of the provincial institution, José Manuel Zamora de la Cruz, aims to carry out conservation and targeted protection works. The works do not include a comprehensive rehabilitation of the building or its overall structural consolidation, but rather localized interventions to prevent further degradation, improve the protection of roofs and facades against water infiltration, and prevent unauthorized access, accumulation of waste, and the presence of wildlife.
The old station, a neomudéjar style building constructed between 1875 and 1880 with a built area of 1,034.35 m², is listed by the Huelva City Council in its PGOU. Currently, there are precautionary measures from the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) from December 2025 affecting the property, which have halted the overall rehabilitation project. The Council highlights that the awarded works "are permitted by the precautionary measure adopted and could even be deemed necessary."
The project received approval from the Huelva City Council, which granted the corresponding building permit last July.
The works will primarily focus on the side pavilions (east and west), the roofs, and the outer enclosures of the site. More than 930 m² of interior surface will be manually cleaned to remove debris, abandoned items, and organic waste or bird droppings, and nearly 400 m² of irrecoverable plaster false ceilings due to moisture will be demolished.
On the exposed brick facades, localized cracks will be repaired in 11 areas, 120 m² will be regrouted with traditional lime mortar, and more than 1,000 m² of facades and stone elements will be cleaned with low-pressure water. On the roof, displaced Arabic tiles will be repositioned over approximately 100 m², perimeter gutters will be waterproofed with liquid polyurethane membranes, and 96 metres of rainwater downpipes will be renewed.
To prevent access by rodents, birds, and unauthorized persons, marine boards will be installed fitted to the profile of the arches in 24 windows, combined with grilles to ensure interior ventilation, and metal security enclosures will be placed.
Five companies submitted bids for the tender. The offer from Dos Fuentes, S.L. scored 99.20 points in the award criteria. Among the improvements offered is a reduction of 10 calendar days from the general execution period of two months, as well as a commitment to periodic reviews and maintenance during the warranty period.
The works will formally begin after the signing of the Act of Replanteo and the formalization of the administrative contract.
