The province counts 15,155 companies, 0.76% fewer than a year ago. Employment falls by 8.29% in a month due to the end of the red fruit campaign.
The business fabric of Huelva shrank during the past month of July. The province closed the seventh month of 2026 with 15,155 companies registered with Social Security, 116 fewer than in July 2025, representing a year-on-year decrease of 0.76%, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA) reported by Diario de Huelva.
This evolution contrasts with that of the whole of Andalusia, which did increase its number of companies to 250,017, 1.7% more than the previous year. Compared to June, Huelva also lost companies, dropping from the 15,271 recorded the previous month to the current 15,155.
The decline was uneven across sectors. Services concentrated the largest number of companies, with 10,570, after growing by 1.43% in a month, while agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing fell by 9.27%, down to 2,288. Construction registered 1,391 companies and industry, 904, with the latter being the only one of the four major sectors to increase, with four more companies than in June.
Commerce remained the most significant activity, with 3,345 companies, followed by hospitality, with 2,355. Other services (955), administrative and auxiliary activities (713), and professional, scientific and technical activities (694) followed.
The productive fabric of Huelva continues to be dominated by small businesses: 7,100 companies had between one and two employees, while only 48 had 250 workers or more.
The decline is more pronounced in employment. Registered companies employed 158,252 people in July, compared to 172,568 in June, an 8.29% decrease. The collapse was concentrated in agriculture, which fell from 39,096 workers in June to 20,661 in July, a drop of nearly 47%, coinciding with the end of the red fruit campaign.
Services were the sector that concentrated the most employment, with 107,702 workers and a slight monthly increase. They were followed by industry, with 17,925, and construction, with 11,964.
By legal form, limited liability companies remain the most numerous, with 7,033 companies, followed by sole proprietorships (5,893). There are also 650 public limited companies and 242 cooperatives.
The data comes from the Statistics of Companies Registered with Social Security from the IECA. Since January 2026, the classification of activities is carried out according to the new CNAE-2025, a change that represents a break in the monthly series when analyzing the data by activity.
