The municipality ends August with 3,720 unemployed, 12.1% less than a year ago. This is the lowest figure for this month since 2007.
Torremolinos has closed August with the lowest unemployment figure for that month since 2007. According to the Argos Observatory of the Junta de Andalucía, the municipality counts 3,720 unemployed, which is 511 fewer than in August 2025 and a year-on-year reduction of 12.1%. Of these, 1,526 are men and 2,194 are women.
Regarding hiring, during August 1,362 contracts were signed (709 for men and 653 for women), the majority linked to the hospitality sector, a key area in the locality.
Affiliation to the Social Security also maintains a positive trend. In July, the last month with official data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Torremolinos added 28,270 workers, 5% more than in the same month of the previous year. The general regime grew by 5.4%, reaching 21,753 affiliates, and self-employed workers increased by 3.4%, reaching 6,078, making the municipality one of the highest percentages of self-employed workers in the province. In month-on-month terms, July gained 595 affiliates compared to June, an increase of 2.1%.
Hotel occupancy reinforces this scenario. The Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) places the occupancy rate for August in Torremolinos at 95.5%, above the provincial average of 92.85%, with the international market and the recovery of domestic visitors as the main drivers. For September, the employers' association estimates that the municipality will lead occupancy in the province with 93%, compared to the 88.58% expected for the entire Costa del Sol.
Additionally, in July, Torremolinos again led overnight stays in Andalucía with 699,089, according to the INE, a year-on-year growth of nearly 7%, ahead of cities like Seville, Granada, or Málaga capital. That same month, it received 141,219 travellers, almost 12% more than in July 2025.
