The Government has appointed Ángel Estrada as the new councillor of the CNMV, while Mariano Bacigalupo renews his term for two more years. The information, reported by expansion.com, highlights the academic and professional profile of both.
The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, has designated Ángel Estrada García as the new councillor of the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), replacing Dolores Beato, who concludes her second term. Estrada, an economist from the Bank of Spain, will assume the position for a period of six years, with no possibility of re-election.
Additionally, the Official State Gazette has published today the renewal of Mariano Bacigalupo Saggese as a councillor of the CNMV for two more years, thus reaching the maximum allowed of six terms, as established by current regulations. Bacigalupo, married to Minister Teresa Ribera, holds a doctorate in Law and is an associate professor at UNED.
Ángel Estrada, who holds a degree in Economics from Complutense University of Madrid and a master's in Economics and Finance from CEMFI, has had a distinguished career at the Bank of Spain since joining in 1990. Among his achievements, he served as Director General of Financial Stability, Regulation and Resolution from 2020 to 2024.
Mariano Bacigalupo has extensive experience in regulatory bodies, having been a councillor of the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) from 2017 to 2022. Furthermore, he has published around 150 legal works and has taught about the CNMV in master's programmes.
