The car market in Spain has experienced remarkable growth in August, with a total of 68,544 cars sold, representing an 11.8% increase compared to the same month last year, according to data published by manufacturers, dealers, and sales associations.
The Chinese brand BYD has made history by positioning itself among the 10 best-selling brands in August, achieving 3,191 units registered and ranking seventh in sales. This figure surpasses established brands such as Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Skoda, Peugeot, Audi, and Citroën.
The standout model from BYD was the BYD Atto 2, which, with 1,157 units registered, ranked among the 10 best-selling models in Spain, finishing in ninth place, just 10 units behind the Hyundai Tucson.
BYD, recognised as the world's largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles, leads the electrified passenger car sector in Spain, offering 100% electric and plug-in hybrid models. Among its most popular vehicles are the BYD Dolphin Surf, BYD Atto 2 DM-i, and BYD Seal U DM-i, which are the most in demand in the Spanish market.
As for the best-selling models, the Dacia Sandero continues to lead, with 2,037 units registered, despite a 4.7% decline compared to the previous year. It is followed by the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Yaris, with 1,762 and 1,705 units respectively.
For the year-to-date total, the Dacia Sandero maintains its lead with 23,769 units sold by August, despite a 6.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. Toyota has led the accumulated sales with 71,512 units, representing a 9.3% increase compared to last year.
BYD aims to finish the year among the 10 best-selling brands in Spain, currently ranking thirteenth with 29,950 units registered by August, which means more than doubling its sales compared to the previous year.
