Hutchison Ports allocates 270 million euros to complete its container terminal in Barcelona Port, as reported by expansion.com. This project includes the installation of large cranes, known as goose neck cranes, which reach 90 meters in height and have the capacity to operate vessels of up to 26 rows of containers.

The first two cranes have recently been inaugurated, marking a milestone in the expansion of Hutchison's facilities in the Catalan capital. The company had previously invested 130 million euros in modernising its infrastructure, which includes the commissioning of seven automated loading blocks.

With this new phase of investment, expected to be completed in the second half of 2027, Hutchison will increase its operational capacity by 25%. The CEO of Best, Guillermo Belcastro, highlighted the resilience of the sector in the face of current challenges in international maritime trade.

The general manager of Hutchison in Europe, Clemente Cheng, expressed confidence in Barcelona's position as a leader in the Mediterranean and its commitment to growth in response to the increasing demand for logistics services. In addition to the new cranes, six additional automated blocks will be constructed, thus completing a complex that began operations in 2013.
