The Chamber of Commerce of Oviedo will hold elections on November 4 with electronic processing via digital signature, being the first Asturian chamber to implement this system. The announcement is published today in the BOPA.
The Chamber of Commerce of Oviedo has called elections to renew its governing bodies on November 4. The publication of the announcement in the Official Bulletin of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) on September 24 marks the start of a process that, for the first time in Asturias, will allow companies to vote and submit candidacies via digital signature, according to information provided by camara-ovi.es.
The institution thus becomes the first Asturian chamber to use electronic processing in a chamber electoral process. The system avoids travel, eliminates paper documentation, and removes in-person procedures. Companies will be able to exercise their rights from any point within the demarcation, which is significant given that the Chamber covers 69 of the 78 municipalities in the Principality and represents approximately 62% of the Asturian business fabric.
The electronic signature provides greater guarantees of identification, authenticity, and traceability than traditional procedures, according to the Chamber. The initiative aligns with Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014, known as eIDAS, which recognizes the legal validity of electronic identification and signature systems in all Member States.
Additionally, the Plenary of the Chamber has been expanded from 55 to 60 members. Of the new members, 41 will be directly elected by the companies through voting, 6 appointed by the Asturian Federation of Entrepreneurs, and 13 will correspond to the group of companies with the highest contributions. The four additional positions have been allocated to strategic sectors: hospitality, capital goods, manufacturing and sale of transport elements, and the chemical industry.
The announcement occurs within the deadlines set for the renewal of chamber governing bodies. The supervising regional administration has positively assessed the technical implementation, considering the territorial breadth of the demarcation and its favorable impact on accessibility, participation, and the agility of the electoral procedure.
Companies interested in participating must be included in the Chamber's electoral roll. Electronic processing will be available through the channels enabled by the institution. The complete electoral calendar will unfold until the voting day on November 4.
