The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has promised that if the Republicans achieve total control of the Senate and the House of Representatives in the elections on November 3, he will deliver a 'Trump dividend' of $5,000 to every adult in the country. This measure was announced during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Dallas (Texas), according to expansion.com.
Trump specified that the payment will be conditional on every penny being spent in the United States. "We don't want you to spend it in Canada, Mexico, or Germany," he stated, highlighting that this action could cost around $1.3 trillion to the public coffers.
In a context of rising international tension and increasing gasoline prices, Trump seeks to revitalise his party ahead of the midterm elections. His popularity has declined, and several Republican candidates have avoided directly associating with him during the convention, reflecting an attempt to distance themselves from his figure.
The president has also stated that despite the critical economic situation, the country is in its "sweetest moment" and that if the Republicans do not gain the majority, "there is much to lose." This message is part of his electoral strategy to mobilise voters in favour of his party.
