The new version of iOS 27 is now available in Spain, although European users will not be able to access Siri's artificial intelligence. This is due to a conflict between Apple and the European Union over the Digital Markets Act.
The company Apple has begun distributing iOS 27, an update that includes significant improvements in performance and new functionalities. However, users in Spain and the rest of Europe will have to wait to enjoy Siri AI, the new version of its virtual assistant, due to a confrontation with Brussels over the Digital Markets Act, as reported by expansión.com.
Among the main improvements of iOS 27 is an acceleration in app opening of up to 30%, as well as an increase in photo speed in the corresponding app of up to 70%. Additionally, transfers via AirDrop can be up to 80% faster.
The new Siri AI will launch in beta phase and only in English, featuring its own app to review previous conversations and the ability to change its voice. However, access remains limited to certain regions. The absence of Siri AI in Spain is justified by the demands of the DMA, which Apple considers a risk to the privacy of its users.
The spokesperson for the European Commission, Thomas Regnier, clarified that the DMA does not prevent Apple from launching new products in Europe, and that the decision not to offer Siri AI in the region is the company's responsibility. Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence, the set of artificial intelligence features, will be available in Spain, although with limited capabilities compared to other markets like the United States.
