The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has urged governments to regulate Artificial Intelligence. His speech at the 81st General Assembly highlights the risks and the need for immediate measures to ensure its safety.
During his latest speech at the UN General Assembly, António Guterres warned about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence and the need for regulation similar to that established for nuclear weapons. Guterres emphasized that current power lies in data and algorithms, which are "highly concentrated" and advancing "at an extraordinary speed."
Guterres reminded that “the very developers who create these systems are now sounding the alarm,” referring to warnings from leaders of companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. In his address, he stressed that the real danger lies in the development of technology without responsibility and transparency.
The Secretary-General urged the 130 heads of state present to take responsibility for regulating Artificial Intelligence and proposed the creation of bilateral agreements to protect children and prevent the use of "killer robots." "Artificial intelligence must be shaped by humanity, with humanity, and for all humanity," he concluded.
