The business fabric of Huelva has decreased to 15,155 companies, while associated employment has fallen by 8.29% in a month. Agriculture suffers the biggest collapse, with nearly half of its workers.
The province of Huelva closed July with 158,252 workers affiliated to Social Security through its companies, which is 14,316 less than in June, according to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), published by Huelva Información.
The monthly decline reaches 8.29% and is mainly due to the end of the red fruit campaign. Agriculture now accounts for 20,661 workers, a 47% decrease from the previous month, while services maintain the bulk of employment with 107,702 employed, slightly above June.
Meanwhile, industry has 17,925 employees and construction 11,964. Larger companies, those with 250 employees or more, concentrate 43,522 workers, down from 51,828 the previous month.
Regarding the number of companies, Huelva recorded 15,155 registered companies in Social Security in July, a figure lower than the same period in 2024 and a 0.75% decrease from June. This trend contrasts with that of Andalusia, which reached 250,017 companies, a 1.7% increase year-on-year.
By sectors, services account for 10,570 companies, a 1.43% increase from the previous month. This is followed by agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing, with 2,288 companies and a monthly drop of 9.27%; construction, with 1,391; and industry, with 904, four more than in June.
Within the business structure of Huelva, wholesale and retail trade continues to have a significant weight with 3,345 companies, ahead of hospitality, which counts 2,355. Further behind are administrative and auxiliary services (713), professional, scientific, and technical activities (694), transport and storage (619), and health and social services activities (522).
The productive fabric of Huelva relies on small-sized companies. The latest data by size indicates there are 7,100 companies with between one and two employees, while only 48 have 250 workers or more. Until June, there were 7,033 limited liability companies and 5,893 registered as sole proprietorships, in addition to 650 public limited companies and 242 cooperatives.
The July data paints a dual decline for Huelva: fewer registered companies and a notable reduction in employment in just one month, conditioned by the end of the agricultural campaign and in contrast to the growth in Andalusia.
