The total volume of strawberries marketed in the 2025/26 campaign in Huelva slightly exceeds that of the previous year, with an increase of 2.9%, according to the Price and Market Observatory of the Junta. The storms from October to February diminished the first harvest and damaged macrotunnels.
The 2025/26 red fruit campaign in the province of Huelva concludes with a bittersweet balance: the total volume of strawberries marketed has slightly surpassed that of last season, with an increase of 2.9%, according to data from various marketing companies collected by the Price and Market Observatory of the Junta of Andalusia, as reported by huelvared.com. The start was complicated: from October until mid-February, a series of storms occurred that diminished the first raspberry and strawberry harvests, as well as causing damage to infrastructure and macrotunnels.
During the period when the Spanish supply of red fruits was scarce, much of the harvest remained in the national market and Portugal, due to the quality risks involved in exporting. This reduced presence of Spain in international markets was seized by competing countries to strengthen their positioning and expand their share. With the improvement in weather from the second half of March, strawberry production began to recover, and from week 16 (mid-April), the volumes marketed surpassed those of the same period in the previous campaign.
The increase in production moderated prices to bring the fruit to market, where it competed with strawberries from various origins. This was compounded by an increase in production costs (fuel and other inputs) resulting from the war in Iran.
In raspberry, the autumn harvest was considerably lower than that of the previous campaign, but in the second harvest, volumes recovered and largely compensated for the losses, although unevenly across producing areas. It is estimated that the total volume marketed throughout the campaign is slightly lower, 1% less, according to the marketing companies. In contrast, prices remained stable and at high levels throughout practically the entire campaign.
The blueberry harvest began early in small quantities thanks to early varieties, but storms reduced production from March, and the peak of the harvest was delayed until the second half of May. Nevertheless, the total volume marketed throughout the campaign exceeded that of the previous one, with an increase of 5.6%.
The estimated area of protected crops in the province of Huelva in 2025 reached 15,278 hectares, a figure stabilized since 2020. This mainly corresponds to small red fruits, although there has been some presence of protected fruit trees with macrotunnels. The region with the highest concentration of greenhouses is Condado Litoral (56%), followed by Costa (28%).
The municipalities with the largest area are Moguer (3,634 ha), Almonte (2,822 ha), Lepe (1,487 ha), Cartaya (1,248 ha), Gibraleón (1,038 ha), Lucena del Puerto (1,027 ha), and Palos de la Frontera (975 ha).
