The construction of Onuba, the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley of Moeve, has already begun in Palos de la Frontera with an investment of €1 billion. The information, reported by Huelva Información, confirms that the municipality will host the largest renewable hydrogen production project in Europe.
The mayor of Palos de la Frontera, Milagros Romero, has described the start of construction as a decisive step for the industrial future of the locality. “The industrial future we have been talking about for years now has investment, technology, and a timeline, and it starts to be built here, in Palos de la Frontera,” she stated.
Romero congratulated Moeve for driving the project and emphasised the historical connection of the company with the municipality. “For us, it is gratifying that a company with so many years of presence in our municipality continues to count on Palos to face this new energy transformation that Europe is experiencing,” she affirmed.
The mayor has called for the investment to translate into opportunities for Palos and for the entire province of Huelva in terms of employment, activity of auxiliary companies, suppliers, training, and new professional possibilities for young people. “We want it to be felt in Palos and in the province, in job opportunities, in auxiliary companies, in our suppliers, in training, and in the possibilities that our young people find to develop their professional careers here,” she pointed out.
The municipality has, as the mayor recalled, qualified workers, experienced companies, and decades of industrial knowledge. “Palos de la Frontera has been part of the industrial and energy history of Spain for decades. Now we also want to be at the forefront of the new green hydrogen industry,” she concluded.
Onuba will be focused on large-scale renewable hydrogen production and will contribute to the decarbonisation of the industry. The project positions Palos de la Frontera and the province of Huelva as a strategic enclave for Spain and Europe's energy transition.
