The President of the Government and the President of the Junta meet this Thursday at the La Rábida Energy Park to lay the first stone of Onuba, a 300 MW plant that Moeve will build in Palos de la Frontera with over 1 billion investment.
The La Rábida Energy Park, in Palos de la Frontera, hosts this Thursday the ceremony for laying the first stone of Onuba, the 300 megawatt (MW) renewable hydrogen plant that Moeve will construct at these facilities. The event will be attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Junta of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, as confirmed by the company to Huelva24.
The event marks the official start of the works for the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, the industrial project that Moeve is developing in the province. The Onuba plant has accumulated an investment of over 1 billion euros and is expected to be operational by 2029.
The facility will start with an electrolysis capacity of 300 MW and will produce renewable hydrogen aimed at decarbonising the industrial processes of Moeve and its clients, as well as manufacturing sustainable fuels for heavy, maritime, and air transport.
The project is part of a broader initiative with which Moeve aims to achieve 2 gigawatts (GW) of electrolysis capacity in Andalusia, distributed between Huelva and San Roque (Cádiz). The company estimates that the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley could produce up to 300,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year.
Regarding employment, Moeve estimates that Onuba will mobilise over 8,000 direct and indirect jobs across the entire value chain and will act as a driver for more than 400 SMEs and self-employed workers.
The laying of the first stone of Onuba comes days after the inauguration of the CirCular plant of Atlantic Copper, another major industrial project in the province, which also exceeds one billion euros in investment.
For Sánchez, the visit has a recent precedent in the province. His last presence in Huelva was on 6 March, when he presided over a memorial event at La Rábida for the victims of the train accident in Adamuz, which occurred on 18 January with 46 fatalities, 28 of whom were residents of Huelva. That tribute was held as part of the XXXVI Hispano-Portuguese Summit, which brought together eleven Spanish ministers and eight members of the Portuguese Government in La Rábida.
Six months later, the President of the Government returns to Palos de la Frontera to accompany Moeve in the launch of the plant. The entry into service of Onuba is scheduled for 2029.
