The President of the Government and the President of the Junta attend this Thursday at the La Rábida Energy Park to kick off the construction of Moeve's renewable hydrogen plant, with over €1 billion investment and expected to be operational by 2029.
The La Rábida Energy Park, in Palos de la Frontera, hosts this Thursday the ceremony for laying the first stone of Onuba, the 300 megawatt (MW) renewable hydrogen plant that Moeve will build in the province. The event, confirmed by the company to Huelva24, will be attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno.
This gesture officially marks the start of the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, the industrial project that Moeve is developing in Huelva and aims to become one of the pillars of the energy transition in the region. The facility will have an initial electrolysis capacity of 300 MW and will produce renewable hydrogen aimed at decarbonising the industrial processes of the company itself and its clients, as well as manufacturing sustainable fuels for heavy transport, maritime and air.
The accumulated investment exceeds €1 billion and the commissioning is expected for 2029. According to Moeve's estimates, the project will mobilise more than 8,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout the value chain and will act as a driver for more than 400 SMEs and freelancers.
Onuba is part of a broader plan with which Moeve aims to achieve 2 gigawatts (GW) of electrolysis capacity in Andalusia, distributed between Huelva and San Roque (Cádiz). The company estimates that the entire Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley could produce up to 300,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year.
The laying of the first stone comes just a few days after the inauguration of the CirCular plant of Atlantic Copper, another of the major industrial projects being developed in the province. In the case of Sánchez's visit, the event has a recent precedent: his last presence in Huelva was on 6 March, when he presided over a ceremony in La Rábida to remember the victims of the train accident in Adamuz, which occurred on 18 January and resulted in 46 fatalities, 28 of whom were residents of Huelva. That tribute was held as part of the XXXVI Hispano-Portuguese Summit.
