The Argentine minister acknowledged the reduction of registered employees and attributed it to the rise of monotributo since 2012. In three years, 500,000 jobs were added, but most are not formal employees.
The Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation of Argentina, Federico Sturzenegger, admitted that formal salaried employment has fallen in recent years, although he framed it as a structural change in the labour market. According to 0221.com.ar, the official stated that "regarding the decline in formal employees even though 500,000 jobs have been added, it is true."
Sturzenegger explained that the expansion of the monotributo regime included in the Base Law facilitated the transfer of workers to that modality. The minister noted that "monotributización" has been recorded since 2012 and defined it as a market response to the search for more flexible hiring methods.
In the balance of the last three years, the minister indicated that around 500,000 jobs were created. Of these, about 190,000 were unregistered employees, while the universe of non-salaried workers grew by 491,000 people, most linked to the rise of monotributistas.
Regarding incomes, Sturzenegger maintained that monotributistas do not show a marked difference compared to salaried employees. According to the data presented, the remuneration of informal workers is 64% above the average for 2023, while that of monotributistas increased by 4%.
For formal salaried employees, the measurements from SIPA and INDEC Salaries show disparate results, although both records reflect increases compared to December 2023. The minister concluded that registered salaried employment had a more stable evolution and did not keep pace with the informal and monotributista segments.
