Minister Sturzenegger acknowledged the decline of formal private salaried employment. In three years, 500,000 jobs were created, but growth was concentrated in independent work.
The Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation of Argentina, Federico Sturzenegger, acknowledged that formal private salaried employment has decreased in the country, as reported by LT9. This decline occurred alongside an increase in monotributista workers, a phenomenon that the official linked to changes in hiring modalities and labour legislation.
Over the last three years, around 500,000 jobs were added, but this growth was not reflected in the same way among formal salaried workers. During this period, about 190,000 unregistered salaried workers were added, while the number of non-salaried workers increased by approximately 491,000 people, primarily driven by monotributistas.
“The labour market has undergone significant changes in its composition,” noted Sturzenegger, who attributed this transformation to a trend that began more than a decade ago and has deepened with recent modifications.
According to the official analysis, the expansion of the monotributo regime, included in the changes approved with the Base Law, facilitated the incorporation of workers into a scheme with lower tax burdens. Sturzenegger also stated that the incomes of monotributistas are at levels similar to those of salaried workers.
Regarding the evolution of salaries, informal workers recorded a real growth in their remuneration of 64% compared to 2023 levels. In the case of monotributistas, the improvement was more moderate, with a 4% increase in their real income compared to 2023. Formal salaried workers showed a different evolution: records from SIPA and the salary index from INDEC present different results, although both reflect increases compared to December 2023.
The data used by the Government shows a labour market with a greater participation of independent workers. The growth of the monotributo appears as one of the main factors behind this transformation, while formal salaried employment has shown a more stable behaviour and did not keep pace with the growth of other segments.
