The Board of Directors of the Port of Huelva has granted ZAL Huelva, S.A. a concession of 147,000 square metres at Punta del Sebo to build and operate a Logistics Activities Zone for 50 years.
The Board of Directors of the Port of Huelva approved this Wednesday the granting of a concession to ZAL Huelva, S.A. for the construction and operation of a Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) at Punta del Sebo. The company, awarded the public tender called by the Port Authority, will have an area of over 147,000 square metres for a period of 50 years, according to the port authority.
The session, chaired by the president of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, also allowed progress on the implementation of the cold pipeline intended for cold supply within the framework of the Cold Logistics Hub, located at the South Dock. The information, reported by the Diario de Huelva, details that this infrastructure will distribute the residual cold generated during the regasification process at the Enagás plant to supply the facilities of the Cold Logistics Hub, promoted by Friportsur, as well as other companies that require this service.
Santana highlighted that the ZAL will “add value to port activity” and contribute to job creation linked to logistics, transport, distribution, and other activities related to industry and agri-food. The port president explained that the cold pipeline will strengthen the positioning of the Huelva port in the field of cold logistics and will offer a service aimed at boosting agri-food exports.
During the meeting, it was also reported on the authorization granted on September 8 by the Council of Ministers to tender the project for the undergrounding of Avenida Hispanoamérica and the construction of an underground car park. This action is part of the port-city integration projects and is considered strategic for advancing the redevelopment of the East Dock. The planned investment is close to 77 million euros and will be fully financed with the own funds of the Port Authority of Huelva.
The Board of Directors also learned about the evolution of port traffic accumulated between January and August 2026. During this period, the Port of Huelva surpassed 20.1 million tonnes, a 2.2% increase compared to the same period last year. In August alone, three million tonnes were reached, the best monthly record of the year.
By type of traffic, liquid bulk has grown by 1.5%, exceeding 14.9 million tonnes, while solid bulk has experienced an increase of 11.4%, with 3.8 million tonnes. General cargo, on the other hand, has surpassed 1.1 million tonnes, an 11% decrease.
One of the main increases occurred in the traffic of cars as cargo, with more than 35,169 units moved and a growth of 43.61%. In container traffic, the Port has recorded a decrease of 29.4%, with over 77,723 TEU. Likewise, the roll-on/roll-off traffic at the South Dock has reached 18,698 Intermodal Transport Units (UTI), including trailers and semi-trailers, representing a decline of 18.41%.
