The president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, presented this Monday in Madrid the first portal of the public state housing park, promoted by the State Housing and Land Entity CASA47. The platform starts with 800 available homes and plans to add another 1,500 in the coming months, distributed throughout the national territory, according to lamoncloa.gob.es.
During the event 'More public housing, more affordable housing', held at the Espacio Larra, Sánchez explained that the portal will allow any citizen to consult the offer and request the housing that best suits their needs, with an agile and transparent procedure. The rent price will be set according to the characteristics of each flat and the economic reality of the municipality, so that no tenant will spend more than 30% of their income on monthly payments.
The president has defended that the rent will also be stable, with contracts of 14 years extendable to 75. He also guaranteed that the homes of CASA47 will be protected "forever": "this must never happen again," he said, referring to the 2.7 million protected units built in the last 45 years that ended up losing their protection and "in the hands of vulture funds."
"For too many people, searching for a home has become an obstacle course," lamented Sánchez, who advocated for "making homeownership a realistic aspiration, accessible to everyone, with realistic rents for real salaries."
The head of the executive recalled that his government has multiplied the housing budget by eight and approved the first Housing Law, which "works where it is applied." As an example, he cited that in Barcelona the price of new contracts has fallen by 4.7% since it was declared a tense area, and in several municipalities of Guipúzcoa it has dropped by almost 4%. In contrast, where the regulation is not applied, "rental prices keep rising."
Sánchez has criticized the administrations that block the law: "This government will not step aside, as other administrations are doing. Not while there are young people and families in our country condemned to choose between paying rent or living without anxiety when the 30th of each month arrives."
