The information, reported by expansion.com, indicates that the attacker was a 49-year-old woman, Pamela Cisneros, who was shot by the police after the attack.
The incident occurred in a tourist area, near 41st Street and Seventh Avenue. Piacenti, originally from Chester, New Jersey, died shortly after at the hospital. Cisneros also attacked a 68-year-old man who had just exited the subway with his wife; he is currently recovering.
Witnesses report that Cisneros pulled out two knives from a red bag before attacking the victims. It is presumed that the attacks were random and there was no connection between the victims and the attacker. After the incident, Cisneros encountered the police on Seventh Avenue, where she refused to drop the knives and was ultimately shot.
The New York Police Department had records on Cisneros related to mental health issues since 2018, although she had no criminal record.
