Clarion Partners, part of Franklin Templeton, has agreed to purchase Stoneshield, a Spanish manager with over €8 billion in assets. Juan Pepa and Felipe Morenés will continue in management after the transaction.
Clarion Partners, the real estate investment manager of the American group Franklin Templeton, has reached an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Stoneshield, as reported by expansion.com. This Spanish manager, which has over €8 billion in assets under management, has experienced notable growth since its founding in 2018 by Juan Pepa and Felipe Morenés.
The agreement has been finalised after several months of exclusive negotiations and is expected to be announced imminently. This operation is part of the current phase of consolidation in the alternative asset management sector.
Stoneshield has diversified its focus towards sectors such as hospitality, infrastructure, and renewable energies, becoming a key player in the investment landscape in Europe. The firm holds significant stakes in companies like Neinor Homes (19%), Meliá (10%), Solaria (10%), and Exolum (20%).
After the transaction, Juan Pepa and Felipe Morenés will remain part of the shareholder base and will continue to lead the management of Stoneshield. With this acquisition, Clarion Partners expands its presence in Europe, where it already manages over $73 billion in assets.
This transaction occurs in a context of increasing activity in the alternative asset management sector, driven by firms' need to diversify and attract capital from large institutional investors.
