OpenAI and Anthropic are facing significant internal tensions due to their executives' proposals to limit the development of artificial intelligence. The situation has raised concerns among employees about the feasibility of implementing these measures.

The rhetoric from the leaders of OpenAI and Anthropic regarding the need to slow down artificial intelligence development is causing significant internal tensions in both companies. According to expansion.com, these tensions reflect the practical difficulties of fulfilling these promises.

Employees at the companies, known for their AI models like ChatGPT and Claude, are trying to follow the recommendations of their CEOs, Sam Altman and Dario Amodei, who advocate for a more cautious approach to AI development. This comes after alarming warnings from researchers about the risks associated with rapid technological evolution.

In a recent essay, Amodei emphasized the need for independent assessments and encouraged collaboration between laboratories and governments. He also called for legal protection against regulations that could hinder this collaboration, a recurring theme in the industry.

However, despite public statements, little has been done internally to implement the new proposals. Many employees agree that slowing progress is necessary, but they also fear that this could jeopardize their jobs. The idea of integrating external evaluators to oversee development has raised concerns about the safety of the technology.

OpenAI has stated that it has already taken concrete steps, such as halting certain trainings, unlike Anthropic, which has not stopped its research. Implementing broader access for external evaluators presents significant challenges regarding data protection and system security.

Independent organizations acting as evaluators have gained relevance this year following security breaches at both companies, highlighting the need for a more collaborative approach in the tech sector.
