The artificial intelligence industry is facing a crisis following the recent resignations of researchers and warnings about the safety of advanced systems. According to expansion.com, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, have agreed on the need to moderate the pace of development to ensure the safety of these technologies.
Last week, researcher Jacob Coxon left Anthropic, expressing his concern that advances in AI could lead to superintelligence that threatens humanity. Coxon estimates that the likelihood of a catastrophic outcome is over 10% in the next decade.
Amodei has called on the industry to develop AI responsibly, ensuring that Anthropic will open its models to external audits. Altman has also committed to accepting external evaluators and has urged the U.S. Congress to establish mandatory safety standards for AI.
Concerns about safety have increased following incidents where AI agents from OpenAI were involved in an attack on the Hugging Face platform and other experiments that could have contributed to the development of biological weapons. Amodei warned that a swarm of these advanced agents could control the internet within 6 to 12 months.
