The manager Man Group, with $228 billion in assets, is expanding its business in Spain after opening an office in Madrid in 2022. This firm, which began its history in 1783, positions itself as a leader in hedge fund management worldwide.

Man Group, Europe's largest hedge fund manager, has strengthened its presence in Spain with the opening of an office in Madrid in 2022, as part of its expansion strategy. According to expansion.com, the firm manages $228 billion in assets, primarily distributed between fixed income and equities, as well as hedge funds.

The manager, which started its journey in the financial world in 1983, has incorporated various companies to diversify its offering. In 1989, it acquired AHL, a quantitative investment firm, and later purchased GLG Partners in 2010 and Numeric in 2014, integrating all these managers into a common platform.

In the hedge fund sector, Man Group ranks as the number 2 in the world by assets among listed managers and is the only European firm in the global top 10. “Today we have a wide range of strategies that allow us to adapt to market demand,” says Kyril Saxe-Coburg, General Sales Director for Iberia.

The company is seeing an increase in demand for risk-hedging products, reinforcing its focus on hedge fund management. “Historically, we started in hedge fund management and then developed traditional funds,” adds the executive.

Man Group's main clients include sovereign funds, large pension funds, and insurance companies. In Spain, there is a growing interest in higher alpha fixed income funds, which have caught the attention of local investors.

Additionally, in February, Man Group announced an agreement with Anthropic to develop artificial intelligence in asset management, reinforcing its positioning in the technology sector applied to finance. “We are very well positioned thanks to our technological and mathematical DNA,” concludes Saxe-Coburg.
