The company Open Cosmos has closed a funding round of €300 million in 2026, marking a milestone for Spanish startups. This investment is led by European funds and aims to expand its capacity in the space sector.
Open Cosmos, a Hispano-British company dedicated to satellite manufacturing, has managed to close a funding round of €300 million to enhance its connectivity and space intelligence business. This figure represents the largest investment raised by a startup in Spain so far in 2026, according to expansion.com.
The round has been led by investors such as Lightrock, ETF Partners, the Catalan Finance Institute (ICF) and Entrepreneurs First, among others. With these funds, Open Cosmos plans to increase its satellite production capacity and accelerate the deployment of services through its projects ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos.
Founded in 2015 by Rafel Jordà, the company seeks to democratise access to satellite data, allowing more organisations and small businesses to benefit from this information at a reduced cost. Open Cosmos is headquartered in Barcelona and also operates in Balearic Islands, Andalusia and Canary Islands.
Additionally, the company has signed contracts worth nearly €320 million in the last three and a half years, accumulating five years of profitable growth. Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, has highlighted that this round reflects the growth of the space sector in Spain and the competitiveness of its companies.
Investment in the space sector continues to rise, reaching nearly €9.7 billion in the first half of 2026, surpassing the €8.7 billion of the previous year. This trend shows the growing importance of technological and space sovereignty in Europe.
