The Spanish economy advanced by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2026, surpassing the 0.6% growth of the first quarter. This growth is due to the increase in household consumption and investment.
The National Institute of Statistics has confirmed that Spain's GDP grew by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2026, a figure that represents one-tenth more than the previous quarter. This growth is supported by the strength of domestic demand, highlighting the role of household consumption.
Household consumption has accelerated to 1.2% quarter-on-quarter, nine-tenths more than in the first quarter. Additionally, gross fixed capital formation showed a growth of 1.4%, also higher than the previous quarter.
Within investment, spending on housing and construction grew by 0.5%, while investment in intellectual property products increased by 3%. Public spending, for its part, remained at a growth of 0.5%.
Regarding external demand, exports grew by 1%, while imports increased by 2.6% between April and June. In annual terms, GDP has grown by 2.6%, maintaining a streak of 21 consecutive quarters of year-on-year increases.
