OpenAI has launched Astra for Law, a new tool based on GPT-6, designed to optimise work in the legal sector. This solution combines a legal search index with specific tools for law firms and legal tech companies.

The launch of Astra for Law marks a significant advancement for OpenAI in the integration of artificial intelligence in the legal profession. This tool, based on the GPT-6 model, is specifically designed to help law firms and legal tech companies develop their own applications and workflows, as reported by expansion.com.

The new solution combines the model with a legal search index that encompasses over 230 million URLs, allowing access to case law, legislation, and administrative decisions in the United States. This index is updated daily and, thanks to its collaboration with Free Law Project, covers more than 99.9% of US case law.

Astra for Law is not limited to generating texts; it also supports processes such as legal research and contract analysis. During testing, the system answered correctly in 54% of legal research questions, showing a 40% improvement over its predecessor.

Privacy is a key aspect of this launch. OpenAI has implemented a Trusted Access program that offers specific controls for legal work, including the option for zero data retention in its API. Additionally, it collaborates with Latham & Watkins to address ethical and oversight issues in the use of AI.

Astra for Law will initially be available to select firms through the Trusted Access program in ChatGPT. Its arrival at the API is expected in the near future, thus expanding the capabilities of legal professionals.
