The aim of the operation is to take the migrants to the port of Ceuta, which has a maximum capacity of 1,800 people, despite estimates that there are over 4,000 migrants on the two beaches. To prevent overcrowding, the agents have begun to group the migrants into small groups of about ten people.
However, there have been moments of tension when some migrants attempted to run towards the port, prompting security forces to intervene. “It was necessary to charge against the immigrants trying to bypass the control,” sources from the National Police indicate.
The operation is coordinated by the National Police, which deploys around 170 agents from the Police Intervention Unit, while the Civil Guard contributes about 70 personnel from the Reserve and Security Group. Additionally, the use of drones has been implemented to enhance control of the situation.
The situation is complicated by the disparity between the number of migrants and the capacity of the reception device. The Government Delegation has expressed concern over the risk of overcrowding and possible incidents, especially if some migrants are unable to access the facility.
