The CPI in Burgos rises to 5.5% in August, one point and two tenths higher than in July

The CPI in Burgos reaches 5.5% annually in August, 1.2 points higher than in July. Unemployment rises by 1.1% and mortgages fall by 16.2% in the first half.

The annual rate of the provincial CPI reaches 5.5% in August, 1.2 points higher than the previous month and 1.2 points above the national average (4.3%). Registered unemployment rises by 1.1% year-on-year and mortgages fall by 16.2% in the first half.

The annual variation rate of the CPI in the province of Burgos stood at 5.5% in August, 1.2 points above the previous month, according to the Economic Indicators Bulletin of the Burgos Chamber of Commerce, published in collaboration with Ibercaja Banco. In the whole of Spain, the national CPI rose by seven tenths and stood at 4.3%, as reported by camaraburgos.com.

Domestic demand shows mixed behaviour. Car registrations until July grew by 11.2% year-on-year in Burgos, above the 3.2% in Castilla y León and the 6.5% national average.

The tourism sector, on the other hand, is declining. Registered travellers until July fell by 5.2% in the province, compared to a 2.9% drop in the region and a 2.0% increase in Spain.

Financial activity is also declining in Burgos. The value of mortgages registered in the first half decreased by 16.2% year-on-year, while in Castilla y León it rose by 9.1% and in Spain by 22.2%.

In the labour market, registered unemployment in August was set at 13,000 people, an increase of 1.1% compared to a year earlier. In Castilla y León, the increase was 0.1% and in Spain, unemployment fell by 2.9%. Social Security affiliation grew by 1.1% year-on-year in the province, between the 0.1% in the region and the 2.1% national average.
