September establishes itself as a key month for getaways, with a 7% increase in travel bookings compared to the previous year. According to eDreams, Spain leads as the preferred destination, capturing 43% of the bookings.
Travel bookings for September in Spain have increased by 7% compared to the same month in 2025, as reported by eDreams. This growth reflects a desire among Spaniards to plan getaways that help them cope with returning to work after the holidays.
This month, domestic destinations dominate the ranking, with three out of five bookings made within the country. Tenerife ranks as the most popular destination, followed by other places such as the Balearic Islands. Dr. Encarna Rama, director of the Psychology Degree at the International University of Valencia, suggests that “planning a rewarding activity in the short or medium term can help make the return to work more bearable.”
64% of the bookings correspond to nearby getaways, while medium-distance trips account for 27% and long-distance trips 9%. Among international destinations, Italy and France are the most chosen, with shares of 11% and 6%, respectively.
The phenomenon of short getaways has resulted in 85% of travellers booking more than 61 days in advance. The first weeks of September account for 56% of the bookings, suggesting that many prefer to travel before the routine is fully established.
