Volkswagen has clarified that the future of the Seat brand beyond 2030 will depend on market evolution and regulation. The company assures that no decision has yet been made regarding its continuity.

The Volkswagen group has issued a statement in response to speculation about the possible disappearance of the Spanish brand Seat beyond 2030. The German company emphasizes that, although Seat and its sister brand Cupra are important, the final decision regarding Seat's continuity has not been made.

Volkswagen mentions that there are various scenarios for Seat in the future, and its viability will depend on factors such as customer demand and current regulation. This context is complicated by rising electrification costs and an increasingly demanding regulatory environment.

From Seat S.A., it is indicated that, after eight years of transformations, the company is entering a new phase with the aim of growth. However, they also warn that car manufacturers must constantly reevaluate their strategies, and this includes Volkswagen and Seat S.A.

Despite these uncertainties, Volkswagen assures that Seat will continue to play a relevant role, with planned launches and the introduction of hybrid versions of the Ibiza and Arona models for next year.

“Whatever scenario ultimately materializes, Seat S.A. and our network of dealers will continue to support Seat customers and fulfill all commitments made to them,” the statement highlights.

On the other hand, Seat S.A. aims to differentiate its situation from that of the Seat brand, stating that it has a solid future within the Volkswagen group. The parent company seeks to strengthen its role, with Cupra as a growth engine, which could increase employment volume at the Martorell plant.

Since its launch in 2018, Cupra has sold over a million units and aims to achieve a 3% market share in Europe.

The president of Seat S.A., Markus Haupt, concludes that the company is preparing for various scenarios from a position of strength, thanks to a transformed industrial base and an increasingly important role within the Volkswagen group.
