The production of Volkswagen ID. Cross has started at the Landaben plant in Navarra, marking a milestone in the Volkswagen Group's electrification process in Spain. This advance, as reported by expansion.com, is part of a broader effort that aims to exceed the production of one million vehicles per year across its three Iberian plants: Martorell, Landaben, and Palmela.
The total investment in these factories amounts to 10 billion euros, including the gigafactory in Sagunto. With the launch of the ID. Cross, which joins other electric models such as the Cupra Raval and the Volkswagen ID. Polo, record production figures are expected. In 2025, the Martorell plant produced 470,347 units, while Landaben aims to surpass its historical record of 353,353 cars.
The president of Volkswagen Navarra, Michael Hobusch, indicated that this increase in production is crucial to ensure employment and the competitiveness of the plant. Furthermore, it is expected that over 800,000 vehicles will come out of the Martorell and Landaben factories in the near future.
Regarding production plans, it is also anticipated that in 2027 the manufacturing of the Volkswagen ID. 1 will begin in Palmela, further strengthening Volkswagen's presence in the Iberian market. The group's CEO, Thomas Schäfer, highlighted the capacity of the plants in Spain to produce both combustion and electric vehicles.
