The chief economist of the ECB, Isabel Schnabel, has delivered a speech analysing macroeconomic, fiscal, and financial risks in a world prone to shocks. The intervention comes in a context of global uncertainty.

The chief economist of the European Central Bank (ECB), Isabel Schnabel, spoke this Friday at an economic forum to address the challenges facing macroeconomic, fiscal, and financial stability in an environment characterised by recurrent shocks, as reported by ecb.europa.eu.

In her speech, Schnabel pointed out that the global economy is exposed to increasingly frequent and diverse disturbances, which forces authorities to maintain a cautious approach. The intervention is part of a series of ECB conferences on monetary policy and stability.

The economist emphasised the importance of having solid fiscal frameworks that can absorb impacts without compromising the sustainability of public finances. She also highlighted the role of monetary policy in anchoring inflation expectations.

The speech comes at a time when markets are closely monitoring the ECB's decisions on interest rates and asset purchases. Schnabel did not provide new clues about the upcoming moves of the governing council.

The full intervention is available on the ECB's website. Other members of the executive committee are expected to comment on the institution's roadmap in the coming weeks.
