The Federal Reserve of the United States has raised interest rates by a quarter point, which has generated a strong reaction from Donald Trump. The former president believes that rates should be 1% or lower.
The Federal Reserve, under the leadership of Kevin Warsh, has decided to increase interest rates by a quarter point, marking the first hike since 2023. This decision has been supported by the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee, who believe that inflation remains too high, according to expansion.com.
In response to this measure, Donald Trump expressed his disagreement through his Truth Social platform, arguing that "interest rates in the United States should be 1% or lower, because we have the best credit in the world, by far." Trump also criticised the Federal Reserve board, stating that they are responsible for the current situation, where inflation remains a problem.
Trump's economic spokesperson, Kush Desai, described the Federal Reserve's decision as "unfortunate," suggesting that it will harm businesses looking to expand. Desai added that inflation is largely due to the energy supply crisis and oil prices in the Middle East.
