Málaga's Diputación will approve a €1.4 million grant on September 23 for the first phase of the road improvement to Villa del Guadalhorce.
The Town Hall of Alhaurín el Grande has announced that the Provincial Diputación of Málaga will approve a direct grant of approximately €1,400,000 at the plenary session on September 23 for the first phase of the improvement works on the last pending stretch of the road to Villa del Guadalhorce. The mayor, Anthony Bermúdez, along with the councillors of the district, Susana García, and of Public Works, Teresa Sánchez, presented the details of an initiative they consider strategic for the municipality.
The transfer will be put to a vote under point 5.1.3 of the plenary agenda of the Diputación. The municipal government team has confirmed that they will attend the session to support the approval and thank the provincial institution for its commitment. The councillor for Public Works explained that the Diputación began the administrative procedures to grant the funding in July and is confident that the money will be transferred before the end of the year.
The first phase involves the improvement of about three kilometres, between the roundabout of the road from Cártama to Coín and the vicinity of the Pie Gallina path, up to the kilometre point 2+800. This investment covers the first of the two phases into which the Diputación divided the project. The Town Hall is already preparing the tender for the works to expedite the timelines once the money is received.
“A fundamental infrastructure for communication between the centre of Alhaurín el Grande and Villa del Guadalhorce, which will also allow our municipality to be better connected with the rest of the Valley and with Málaga capital,” stated Mayor Anthony Bermúdez.
Bermúdez added that the Town Hall will continue negotiating with the Diputación to complete the second stretch to the district. The councillor for Villa del Guadalhorce, Susana García, emphasised that the improvement was a historic demand from the residents: “We are delighted, it seemed like this moment would never arrive, but as a councillor and especially as a resident of the district, this is one of the most important pieces of news during our term.”
García recalled that the poor condition of the road was one of the reasons that led her to enter municipal politics. “The people who live in Villa del Guadalhorce have suffered from the neglect this road has experienced for so many years,” she indicated. The initiative also aims to improve the connection with the Arco road (A-355).
The Town Hall of Alhaurín el Grande expects the tender to be ready for the works to start as soon as possible after the grant approval. The plenary session of the Diputación on September 23 will decide the definitive unlocking of the funds.
