From September 23 to 25, the province of Huelva will celebrate the third edition of the Congress on Smart Labeling, organized by the Diputación de Huelva and Naturcode. The event will take its sessions to companies in Jabugo, Isla Cristina, Palos de la Frontera, and La Palma del Condado, as well as the capital.
The province of Huelva will be the stage, from September 23 to 25, for the third edition of the Congress on Smart Labeling, an event driven by the Diputación de Huelva and coordinated by the company Naturcode. According to Huelva Buenas Noticias, the meeting will gather 22 speakers and 6 content creators with over 900,000 followers in total, including the popularizer Pablo Ojeda.
The main novelty of this edition is that the sessions will move directly to the venues of the participating companies, instead of concentrating in a single space. The provincial deputy José Carlos Roda and the CEO of Naturcode, Fernando Vázquez, presented the program, which will kick off on Wednesday September 23 at the Cocheras del Puerto de Huelva, provided by the City Council of the capital.
The inaugural day will feature an intervention by Ignacio Trueba, an international expert in nutrition policies from the FAO, who will be interviewed by journalist Juan Carlos Blanco to discuss the future of global food. The following day, Thursday 24, the congress will move to Jabugo and Isla Cristina; on Friday 25, it will do the same in Palos de la Frontera and La Palma del Condado. The closing will take place in the evening at the Muelle de las Carabelas.
Among the participating companies and brands are Sánchez Romero Carvajal, Fresón de Palos, La Canastita, Ficolumé, and Bodegas Infante, alongside major distribution chains such as Danone, Lidl, and Mercadona. The presentations and working groups will be structured around four axes: safety, sustainability, health, and satisfaction.
“This is the first time a congress goes to the companies, instead of the companies coming to the Congress,” noted Fernando Vázquez, who emphasized the opportunity to highlight the strength of the agri-food sector in Huelva in Spain and Europe.
Smart labeling places the consumer at the centre of the process, according to the organizers. “The consumer goes from being the last link to the first,” highlighted Vázquez, who explained that these digital tools provide clarity and information to citizens and allow companies to better understand their preferences to optimize production.
The participation of digital content creators aims to bring these advancements closer to the general public in accessible language. The congress will take place in five itinerant venues: the Cocheras del Puerto de Huelva, Jabugo, Isla Cristina, Palos de la Frontera, and La Palma del Condado.
