The Prime Minister meets with the President of Namibia in New York and offers more Spanish effort to complete the annex on access to pathogens and benefits.
The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has confirmed Spain's support for the Pandemic Agreement of the World Health Organization (WHO), approved by the World Health Assembly in May 2025. He did so during a meeting with the President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, taking place in New York, as reported by La Moncloa.
During the meeting, Sánchez conveyed the Government's support, in coordination with the European Union, for the ongoing negotiations to complete the Annex on Access to Pathogens and Benefit Sharing (PABS). This annex aims to ensure that the exchange of potentially pandemic pathogens and their genetic information is linked to fair and equitable access to the benefits arising from their use, including vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments.
The Prime Minister also indicated that Spain is willing to double its efforts and take a more active role in promoting these negotiations. The objective, according to the Government, is to advance the process and strengthen a more effective, supportive, and equitable international health architecture in the face of future pandemics.

The bilateral meeting between Sánchez and Nandi-Ndaitwah is part of the President's agenda at the UN General Assembly, which brings together international leaders in New York. The meeting served to establish Spain's position on the mechanism that will regulate the exchange of biological samples and the distribution of scientific advancements achieved from them.
