Unemployment in Navarra increased in August to 29,524 people, a 2.3% rise compared to July and a 4% increase compared to the same month last year. The average affiliation to Social Security remained virtually stable.
Unemployment rose in Navarra last August to a total of 29,524 people, which represents a 2.3% increase compared to July and a 4% rise compared to a year ago, according to data published by the State Public Employment Service and reported by camaranavarra.com.
In year-on-year comparison, unemployment increased in the industrial sector (2.59%), in services (0.92%), and notably among people without previous employment, with an increase of 29.4%. This latter figure reflects the effect of the regularisation process for immigrants, which expands the number of job seekers looking for their first job.
Hiring, however, showed a positive trend. Although fewer contracts were signed in August than in July due to the end of seasonal campaigns, compared to August 2025, contracts increased by 16%, with improvements across all sectors.
Meanwhile, the average number of people affiliated with Social Security in Navarra in August 2026 was 323,275, virtually stable (-0.01%) compared to July, due to the usual seasonal effect.
The data shows the seasonal effect of August, whereby the figures are worse than in July, and one must consider the impact of the regularisation process for immigrants.
The regularisation process also influences the fact that the increase in affiliations or contracts is not entirely due to the creation of new jobs, and may explain the higher number of people registered as job seekers in employment offices.
