The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a meeting at La Moncloa with representatives of the Labour Platform for Early Childhood Schools (PLEI) to address their demands for labour improvements and funding for the 0-3 cycle.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received a delegation from the Labour Platform for Early Childhood Schools (PLEI) this Thursday at the La Moncloa complex, according to the La Moncloa website. The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Milagros Tolón, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the platform's representatives, who represent workers from early childhood schools, presented their main demands: improvements in working conditions, an increase in funding for education for children aged 0 to 3, and the creation of a network of public, universal, and free centres, among other measures.
Sánchez thanked the sector for its work and noted that early childhood education is a driver of equal opportunities, while also emphasising the need to focus on the quality of these centres beyond their role as a tool for work-life balance.
The head of the Executive guaranteed the Government's commitment to ensuring that the 0-3 stage is universal, public, and free for all families, regardless of their income and place of residence. In this regard, he highlighted that the Executive has invested 670 million euros to strengthen the first cycle of Early Childhood Education and has created more than 45,000 new public and free places, raising early schooling to 56%.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education is working on updating the regulations that govern these centres, with improvements planned in both ratios and educational spaces.
Finally, Sánchez called on the autonomous communities to fully exercise their educational competencies and to utilise all the resources that the State transfers to them for education, in order to enhance the recognition, quality, and reach of this stage.
