Citadel has increased its short position in Unicaja, making it the only bank in the Ibex under pressure. The Andalusian entity faces a new negative report from Morgan Stanley regarding its shares.
The investment firm Citadel has raised its short position in Unicaja, turning the Andalusian bank into the only one in the Ibex index facing significant pressure in this regard, as reported by the CNMV. This increase occurs in a context where most Spanish banks are enjoying a respite from short-selling firms.
As of yesterday, Citadel declared that it had borrowed shares of Unicaja equivalent to 0.61% of its capital, an increase from the 0.51% reported on August 25. This move comes despite the recent stock market rally that has seen Unicaja's shares grow by 34% so far this year, and 118% in 2025.
On the other hand, Morgan Stanley has updated its valuation of the bank, setting a target price of €2.8 per share, which represents a 21% downside potential compared to the previous close. This new report indicates a possible correction that could interrupt Unicaja's upward trend.
