In October, Madrid will become the centre of the global infrastructure market as it hosts the first World Infrastructure Forum. This event will bring together industry leaders supported by entities such as the World Bank and MIT.
On October 28 and 29, Madrid will be the epicentre of the infrastructure sector by holding the first summit of the World Infrastructure Forum (WIF). This initiative is backed by the World Bank, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), and the University of Texas at Austin.
The event will gather 350 leaders from 40 countries and is considered by the organisers as a key space to address the need for infrastructure investment, which is estimated to reach 150 trillion dollars by 2050. According to the promoters, “it is necessary to promote public-private partnerships” to tackle this challenge.
The WIF will be held biannually and has formed an advisory committee that includes Spanish multinationals ACS, Ferrovial, and Acciona, whose executives are connected with the founding institutions. The participation of the CEOs of these companies as speakers is expected, although it has not yet been officially confirmed.
The event will take place at the School of Civil Engineering at UPM, and the organisers believe that Madrid could become a permanent host for the forum in the future. This year, the World Bank has opened a permanent office in Madrid, highlighting the city's growing importance in the field of infrastructure.
