Doctors across Spain will initiate an indefinite strike starting October 28 to protest against the new Health Framework Statute. This decision affects multiple unions demanding improvements in their working conditions.
From October 28, doctors across Spain will begin an indefinite strike in protest of the Draft Law of the Health Framework Statute promoted by the Minister of Health, Mónica García. The announcement has been made by the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) and other unions such as the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA) and Doctors of Catalonia (MC), according to Europa Press.
The Strike Committee criticizes the “stubbornness” of the Ministry of Health for advancing a statute that does not have the support of the doctors. The general secretary of AMYTS, Ángela Hernández, stated that this strike represents “a failure for all” and emphasized that the mobilizations aim to improve patient care.
The unions demand equitable working conditions, such as a 35-hour workweek, compensation for excessive hours, and changes to the retirement model. Additionally, they insist on the need for a specific statute for doctors that respects their training and responsibilities.
These mobilizations add to the strikes that already took place from February to June, and the unions have called on all doctors to join this decisive action for the future of the profession in Spain.
