Kylian Mbappé has ended his relationship with Nike after nearly 20 years and will now join On as an ambassador and shareholder. This move marks a new chapter for the Swiss company, which plans to launch football boots in 2027.
Kylian Mbappé has decided to terminate his collaboration with Nike to become the global ambassador for On, a Swiss sports equipment company. According to information from expansion.com, this change represents a significant step in the career of the Real Madrid forward, who had been linked to Nike since he was 9 years old.
The agreement, which also includes a shareholding stake, allows Mbappé to participate in the development of a new line of football boots set to launch in 2027. The duration of the contract is estimated at ten years, although financial details have not been disclosed.
With this signing, On aims to carve out a space in a market dominated by brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma. The company, which started in 2010 focused on running, now incorporates Thierry Henry as Director of Football, who will work on the brand's strategy in football.
This move follows the successful strategy that On implemented with Roger Federer, who joined the brand as a co-owner in 2019. Mbappé's entry represents a bet to build a football business from scratch, leveraging its innovation in footwear and its LightSpray manufacturing technology.
Mbappé's departure from Nike is also a considerable loss for the brand, which has recently seen other ambassadors leave, such as Lamine Yamal, who switched to Adidas. However, Nike still boasts prominent figures like Erling Haaland and Vinícius Júnior.
