The works are progressing rapidly, and the stands and excavators can already be seen working on the creation of new roads and a high-speed train line. The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, is considered a frontrunner to become prime minister, highlighting the importance of football in the Moroccan political context.
The World Cup is seen as an opportunity to boost the country's economic growth, with estimates suggesting it could generate a 1.7% increase in annual growth and create 100,000 jobs per year. However, there are concerns about economic inequality and the lack of employment among young people, with youth unemployment reaching 37% according to the IMF.
Despite the football fervour, a portion of the population is sceptical about the massive investment in the tournament, recalling that many citizens still face economic challenges. The parliamentary elections taking place this Wednesday will reflect this discontent, with a young electorate demanding significant changes.
