The Ibex index stocks are impacted by a market correction, especially among companies more related to artificial intelligence. According to expansion.com, the stock market rally in this sector is beginning to lose momentum due to increasing inflationary pressure and a possible interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve.
The price of oil has surpassed 100 dollars, creating a climate of uncertainty in the markets. This increase could lead to a rise in financing costs, which are already approaching 5% for ten-year debt in the United States. Companies linked to AI are feeling the impact of these conditions, which could hinder investments in the sector.
Declines are becoming widespread today, with South Korea's Kospi index falling more than 3% and shares of SoftBank, a major shareholder in OpenAI, losing more than 10% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. A drop is also observed in Nasdaq futures and in European semiconductor companies like ASML and Infineon.
In the case of the Ibex, its lower direct exposure to AI development has helped mitigate losses, although declines are concentrated in companies like ACS, Solaria, and Merlin, which are more linked to the infrastructure necessary for AI, such as data centres. ACS has led the declines today, with drops exceeding 3%.
