The National Court has provisionally suspended the Airbus referendum, scheduled for September 24 and 25. This decision follows a lawsuit filed by the CGT union for alleged violation of the right to strike.
The National Court has decided to provisionally suspend the referendum that was to be held by the Airbus workforce in Spain regarding the acceptance of the company's latest proposal, which was scheduled for September 24 and 25. This measure comes after the request for precautionary measures submitted by the CGT union, as confirmed by the union itself.
CGT argued that the company had violated the fundamental right to strike and acted in bad faith during negotiations. The hearing on these measures will take place on September 24, coinciding with the start of the employee consultation.
The referendum involved workers from all Airbus centres in Spain and included the participation of union auditors and the external consultancy PwC to ensure the transparency of the process. In recent weeks, informational meetings were held to explain the conditions and benefits of the proposal presented.
The proposal reached on September 4 with the unions ATP, CCOO and SIPA includes a commitment to pay the actual CPI and a recovery of purchasing power of 7.95% distributed over four years, until 2029. Annual increases will be linked to the CPI, with a rise of 2% in normal years and 1.95% in 2029.
Airbus believes that this proposal is a balanced solution that improves working conditions and ensures a competitive position in Spain. However, the strike committee, formed by UGT, CGT and ÉTIL, has raised its demands, asking for an increase of the CPI plus an additional 4% in 2026 and 2027, as well as a one-off payment of 4,000 euros.
For its part, CCOO, the majority union in the company, has urged workers to vote in favour of the current offer, arguing that it will consolidate the improvements achieved in the sector. The indefinite strike, which had been on hold, will continue after the recent vote in which the workforce opted to resume mobilisations.
