From September 1, 2026, Social Security will stop sending letters to notify medical leave and other resolutions. Now, all notifications will be made through the Electronic Headquarters, generating significant changes for users.
From September 1, 2026, Social Security in Spain will stop sending letters to notify temporary and permanent disabilities. This change means that all notices will be sent exclusively through the Electronic Headquarters, as stated in Order ISM/541/2026, dated May 27.
The measure affects those in a situation of Temporary Disability, as well as applicants or recipients of Permanent Disability. From this date, citizens will no longer receive resolutions or summons on paper, which could lead to the loss of important deadlines for submitting claims or appeals.
Notifications will be available only in the Electronic Headquarters. Upon the arrival of a new file, users will receive a notice via email or SMS, where a digital identification will be required, such as Cl@ve, Digital Certificate, or electronic DNI, to access the information.
It is essential to note that there is a maximum period of 10 calendar days to access the notification. If it is not opened within that time, it will be legally considered notified, which could result in the loss of rights to claim benefits. This is warned by unions such as UGT and CSIF, which have expressed the importance of being aware of this change to avoid negative consequences.
CSIF states that "affected individuals will have 10 calendar days to access notifications. After that period without accessing its content, they will be legally considered notified."
To adapt to this new system, users are advised to update their contact details with the General Treasury of Social Security and ensure they have an active digital identification system.
